On November 19,2007 twenty one delegates graduated from the intensive Sustainable Urban Planning and Design Training Program conducted by the China US Center for Sustainable Development in partnership with Portland State University and its College of Urban and Public Affairs and Executive Leadership Program.
The delegation was led by Deputy Director General ZHANG Qin of the Ministry of Construction (MOC) from Beijing. In addition to the national ministry officials, the twenty one delegates included trainees from: Guangdong, Hebei, Jilin, Liaoning, Qinghai and Zhejiang provinces and Chongqing municipality. With this graduation, there are now 81 training alumni from twenty-one provinces, autonomous regions and major municipalities.
The training sessions combine classroom lectures with hands-on site visits. The training modules for this session focused on sustainable urban planning and design concepts from the public and private perspective, collaborative governance, public participation, low-income housing and green buildings.
The delegation’s site visits include green buildings on the Portland State University campus, the LEED Platinum Gerding Theater, the Portland Bureau of Planning, Portland Union Station and New Columbia Villa.
